Making a pizza… 12 五月 2017

All of the Friday tamariki tried their hand at preparing their lunch today. Pizza was on the menu and they all got into teams of 4 or 5 and went about preparing their lunch. It was interesting to watch as one child in each of the teams threw themselves into the leadership role, putting their hand up first to distribute the toppings onto their base and sorting the order of the toppings. They worked together, using their mathematical skills during an everyday experience to count out the different amounts/spoonfuls of the sauce, spaghetti, pineapple, corn and cheese.

The children played an  active part in the running of the programme and developed turn taking, leadership and self help skills during this process. They had the opportunity to express their ideas and assist their peers.

The best part was eating the lunch in picnic style and boy did they wolf it down! There is nothing better then eating something that you have helped to prepare.
