Olivia Hotter 12th April 2021, 16:10 Clay Animals

Maya, this term we have been so fortunate to have Whaea Buffy in every Thursday to grow our amazing Te Reo Māori brains. Maya, as part of this learning, we have focused on many areas, one including Taku Mōkai – our pets. Through this learning and exploration of our pet shop play these last couple of weeks, we created our own clay animals using a sustainable recipe. Maya, you were really enthusiastic to create your own animal and jumped at the opportunity! First we had to make the clay, we used baking soda, corn flour and water and cooked it until it looked like thick mashed potatoes. After it had cooled down, we moulded and shaped our animals. Maya, we soon figured out that it was a little hard to stick all our animal parts together so we used a hot glue gun to hold them together. Our next step is to paint them and then look after them like we would if they were our real pets! Maya, it was great exploring this learning with you and I am looking forward to the final product! Kei runga noa atu koe Maya (you are awesome Maya!)
