Maya, you have had a fantastic start to your time here at Te Ao Marama and we are really enjoying getting to know you and see you thrive in our environment. This week you have explored a new skill of sewing! Maya, you were really interested in making your own little Korowai for a peg doll in celebration of Waitangi Day. We sat together and talked about the tools we needed to sew and the process of stitching. Maya, you carefully threaded your needle, this used a lot of concentration but this will be a skill you will learn to master overtime! Maya, you observed the Te Reo poster all about traditional clothing and chose your fabric ready to start your creation. Maya, I was so impressed with your fine motor skills and confidence to stitch. You carefully ensured that your sewing line was strong and you went back and forth to make the front of the korowai where the material met nice and strong. Maya, you were so proud of yourself when you finished! Our next step is to work on also learning to tie knots to finish off our pieces, this part was tricky! Maya, you have thoroughly enjoyed learning to hand sew and I am looking forward to developing this skill further throughout the rest of the year. Ka Pai!
