Maya as your good friends have set off for school I have noticed you exploring different areas of play alongside your peers as you develop new relationships with others whom have similar interests.
At the play dough table today you were creating a tea party with the animals. At first this was a solo experience but soon enough I noticed you initiating short conversations with Oscar as you started out asking to share the different tools and then you began to chat about what you were making.
“This is a teddy bear biscuit. It has the eyes and face,” you told him. You switched between English and Mandarin.
I could see how focused you were as you created the detailed features of your bear to stick on top with Oscar doing the same. You were going to feed these treats to your soft toys and would stop to give them a little pat in between your creating.
Here is where you stayed for most of the afternoon. Once your biscuit was complete you moved onto a cake. “It has balls on top like this,” you shared as you rolled the dough.
Bob and Cherol Maya is demonstrating how resilient she is as she adapts to Kiwi life without Amber, Nelia and Echo. She is confident to initiate conversation with others and gravitates towards children with similar interests such as art, dramatic play and music and movement. Maya is exploring different experiences outside of the collage area too. She showed me today how she can still be creative and use her artistic skills in another area.
