Sharyn Douglas 9th December 2022, 08:28 End of Year Report 2022

Maya has grown in confidence over the later part of the year.  She is willing to branch out with her friendship and is learning to balance her relationships with her work commitments.  Maya is dedicated to get her work completed to a high standard and can be relied upon to work unsupervised..

In Mathematics, Maya is working at the beginning of Curriculum Level 3.   She has a strong understanding of number knowledge.  Maya is able to work on more complex problems and is starting to work on problems that require 2-3 steps before they can be solved.  In Reading, Maya is working at the beginning of Curriculum Level 3.   Maya is able to decode unknown words and is learning to break down specific topic words.  Maya is currently working on inferential questions.  This is where she is required to answer questions using the information that is inferred in the text, rather than what is literally written on the page.  In Writing, Maya is working at the beginning of Curriculum Level 3.  She has started to develop her own personal voice, particularly in her free-writing tasks.  Maya has begun to identify specific language features that authors use to make the story exciting for the reader.  She is learning to use a hook sentence in her writing to engage the reader quickly.

Maya presented a well-crafted speech to the class.  She worked hard to use a variety of presentation skills, for example emphasizing her voice at different times and using hand gestures to get her message across.  Maya was confident at camp.  She was a valued member of her team and was willing to give everything a go.  Maya was always supporting others, and taking the time to share her knowledge and skills, particularly when skiing.  During our Wearable Arts unit, Maya created some impressive designer shoes.  This showed her creativity and unique design ideas.  In Term 4, Maya created a clever picture book for her junior buddy.

Maya demonstrates our CPS Key Competencies on a daily basis.  She is working on Adventure and Exploring, and taking on more leadership roles outside of her friendship group.  Maya has a great deal to offer and it would be good to see her challenge herself to lead others in different situations.

Maya, you have been a pleasure to teach this year.  We look forward to watching you grow and shine in 2023.
