Maya is a delightful diligent student who has quickly become an asset to Room 4.  She has made friends easily and is a role model for others.   Maya has a natural curiosity around learning and will seek to understand topics that are new to her.  She is learning to focus more in depth around a particular aspect, first exploring the whole topic before drilling down to select an area to pull apart.

In Mathematics, Maya is working at the end of Curriculum Level 2.   She has a strong understanding of number knowledge.  Maya is able to work on more complex problems and is starting to work on problems that require 2-3 steps before it can be solved.  Applying her number knowledge to geometry and measurement is her next learning goal.  In Reading, Maya is working at the beginning of Curriculum Level 3.   Maya is able to decode unknown words and is learning to break down specific topic words found in our unit study, like Space and ANZAC.  Maya is currently working on inferential questions.  This is where she is required to answer the questions with the information inferred in the story, rather than what is literally written on the page.  In Writing, May is working at the end of Curriculum Level 2.  She has started to develop her own personal voice, seen in her free writing tasks.  Maya has begun to identify particular language features that author’s use to make the story exciting for the reader.  She is learning to use a hook sentence in her writing to engage the reader quickly.

During the end of Term One, Maya participated in part of our ‘Brand Me’ unit.  Learning how to make her own brand and what a logo might look like, if she designs one for herself.  During Term Two, Maya was able to work alongside a partner to investigate ANZAC, from our ‘Above and Beyond’ unit.  She used the information she gathered to create a graphic novel.  Maya presented a well crafted Google Slideshow around Basketball.  She was confident, although quiet when speaking in front of the class.

Maya is learning about the Cambridge Primary Key Competencies and how these relate to her.  She continues to work on the Key Competency of Adventure and Exploring, where she is willing to take on the lead in group situations and go outside of her comfort zone.

Maya, you have been a wonderful asset to Room 4 and a pleasure to teach.
