Maya is able to communicate and understand in context simple phrases, commands, objects, questions and sentences in Maaori.
These included:
Whakapapa (genealogy), maunga (mountain), awa (river) and waka (canoe).
“Neke whakamua” (Move forward).
“Neke whakamuri” (Move backwards).
“Neke whakatemaaui” (Move left).
“Neke whakatematau” (Move right).
“Neke atu” (Move away).
“Haere mai” (come here).
“Haere atu” (Go away).
“Haere ki te noho” (Go and sit down).
“Haere ki te teepu” (Go to the table).
Maya demonstrated maaiatanga (bravery and confidence) while saying the school Pepeha in front of the class. Maya always gave it her best in all of the activities she completed. Kei runga noa atu koe e hine!
