Maya, recently we have been focusing on Taha Tinana (Physical Wellbeing) during our Physical Education lessons. Maya, you have been developing your ball skills to increase your catching and receiving skills. You have learnt to keep your eyes on the ball, hold your hands to form a ‘W’ position when receiving and throwing a chest pass, pulling the ball into your body, along with ensuring our legs are in a staggered position to ensure we have a wide base of support for balance. Maya, you started with practising your passing technique with a partner. Beginning with chest passes, bounce passes then progressing into lob passes. Maya, your expert basketball skills came in handy here and you were a real expert!

We then learnt a new game, Tapu Ae. Maya, Tapu Ae is a challenging game that improves two-handed passing, passing accuracy, catching, small target shooting, foot movement, communication between teammates and blocking skills. Maya, you found this game fun but challenging as there were a lot of components you needed to focus on to be successful. Maya, you consistently displayed confidence and enthusiasm throughout this game. You used excellent communication skills when strategizing with your teammates! Maya, depending on where the ball was during the game, you had to jump into either attack mode or defense mode, which you did so well. After the game, we reflected as a class on what was challenging and what we found worked well. Together we discussed some strategies that would help us next time we explored this game and these skills. Maya, we were impressed with the confidence and enthusiasm you displayed towards this new learning, alongside being a great role model for your peers. Ka pai tō mahi!
